Shirim Klezmer Trio

Klezmer Nutcracker Concert for Hanukah

Worcester Art Museum, 55 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA

Worcester Art Museum partners with the JCC and the Jewish Federation of Central MA to host this full-day program that celebrates Hanukkah with activities for all ages. Shirim performs a concert featuring the Klezmer Nutcracker at 2:00 and the full celebration is from 10-4 and includes live cooking demonstrations of latke making, story times in collaboration with PJ Library, art activities, and discussions about the traditions and history of Hanukkah.

We are especially excited to be working in our new Yiddish vocal tunes and arrangements with vocalist Anneke Reich. Also featured are our regulars, Glenn Dickson, clarinet; Michael McLaughlin, accordion; Jim Gray, tuba; Eric Rosenthal, drums; and trombonist Clayton DeWalt.

This is the band's 35th anniversary this year, and Maudslay Arts Center's 25th Anniversary, so lots to celebrate!

Klezmer Nutcracker Holiday Concert

Shirim is performing its Klezmer Nutcracker Holiday Concert at Club Passim in Harvard Square on Sunday, Dec. 4, 3:00pm! Club Passim is at 47 Palmer St., the Ticketing Phone is 617-492-7679. The Klezmer Nutcracker is our take on Tchaikovsky's Hanukah ballet suite, and we will also perform some other holiday classics, like our "Search for the Golden Dreydl," which probably the greatest dreydl tune ever. Debuting with the band is vocalist Anneke Reich, performing in Yiddish, along with our normal crew Glenn Dickson, clarinet; Michael McLaughlin, piano and accordion; Jim Gray, tuba; Eric Rosenthal; and guest Clayton DeWalt on trombone.

For you holiday shopping pleasure, most of our CDs are available at CD Baby including the Klezmer Nutcracker, Pincus and the Pig (with Maurice Sendak), Mayse, Naftule's Dream. Our first CD, "Of Angels and Horseradish," has recently been reprinted with its original packaging and is available there for the first time in quite a while.
